Federica Surace
Assistant Professor at the University of Innsbruck
My research centers on the theory of quantum many-body systems, with a focus on non-equilibrium dynamics and quantum simulation.
01/10/26 - Our paper Probing False Vacuum Decay on a Cold-Atom Gauge-Theory Quantum Simulator, with Zi-Hang Zhu, Ying Liu, Gianluca Lagnese, Wei-Yong Zhang, Ming-Gen He, Jad C. Halimeh, Marcello Dalmonte, Siddhardh C. Morampudi, Frank Wilczek, Zhen-Sheng Yuan, and Jian-Wei Pan, has just been published in Physical Review Letters as Editors' Suggestion.
23/09/26 - Our paper String-breaking dynamics in a quantum simulator, with Arinjoy De, Alessio Lerose, De Luo, Alexander Schuckert, Elizabeth R. Bennewitz, Brayden Ware, William Morong, Kate S. Collins, Zohreh Davoudi, Alexey V. Gorshkov, Or Katz, and Christopher Monroe, has just been published in Nature Physics.
28/07/26 - Our new preprint State preparation and detection for quantum simulation of particle collisions, with Sary Bseiso, and John Preskill, gives a practical recipe for firing quasiparticles at each other on a quantum simulator.
22/04/26 - Our new preprint Charge Transport Capacity as a Probe of Resonances in Models of Many-Body Localization, with Jessica Jiang, and Olexei Motrunich, sheds light on the effect of many-body resonances on transport.
16/03/26 - Certain classes of perturbations of classical integrable models nearly preserve their integrable structure. Learn more in our new preprint Weak integrability breaking perturbations in classical integrable models on the lattice, with Sara Vanovac, Catherine McCarthy, and Olexei Motrunich.
05/02/26 - Registrations are open for the conference QPITI (pronounced "Kriti") 2026 - Quantum Platforms: Implementations and Theoretical Insights. Click here to register. We are accepting applications until March 10.
15/12/25 - I am moving to the University of Innsbruck in April 2026. PhD position available!
quantA University of Innsbruck Fellowship Call 2026: if you are interested in applying for this postdoctoral position in my group, please get in touch. More information here.
At the moment, there are unfortunately no other open positions in my group. I may not be able to respond to individual messages about potential opportunities. Please don’t take this personally, and thank you for your interest in our work!
